Boy, don't you ever reread threads?

I just need to know if the MPX 1 offers a distorion feature. None of the literature I've read in the stores says it does, but one or two users mention it as a feature in their reviews. They say it isn't the best distortion, but anything would be better than nothing, and I'll eventually go with something else later for distortion.

I just hate returning things for something like this. And as you may have read previously, there are no decent music stores in my area to check it out (not even close... the closest is two hours, and even they said they'd have to order one to findout the answer).

The MPX-1 is really designed for high-quality reverbs, delays, and other multi-effects. It isn't really designed to provide amplitude-related effects such as distortions for guitars. I can't tell you off-hand whether there even is a preset for it, but even so, I can't imagine any case where you'd want to use it if it had one - there are SO many other options for guitar-gain procesings out there that would handle the job much more effectively...

I understand the "save money" objective, but you really do need to use "the right tool for the job" in this case.

As usual, Bruce, your advice is sound (Pun intended). Thanks. Even though it means putting off my buying a guitar and amp (which I'll probably not have time to use in the next few months), I'll be getting the VF-1 for the cool distortion and other fun effects. Then if I decide later my setup needs a more serious reverb (and other digital fx) than can be allowed by the functions on my Digi, I'll get the MPX 1. I guess I knew I'd be getting both eventually anyway.

Hmmm just came across something... an FYI for ya....

Lexicon makes 2 guitar preamps/processors - the Signature 284 tube preamp (lists around $1100.00us) and the MPX G2 preamp/processor which includes multi-effects and distortions, etc... (lists around $1500.00us)

I couldn't tell you what they sound like 'cos I've never tried 'em but they ain't cheap, so I imagine Lexicon's done their homework!
