Please help me decide

Hi all, I am looking for compresser/limiter and I found out these three I could afford to buy it,which are Alesis 3630, DBX and RNC. I never really use any kind of compressers before so I'm stuck to choose any of them . It will be mainly for vocal and propbably for instruments. If you have them or used them before please let me know how they work.

Thanks,V for Van

FMR RNC hands down the Alesis is the biggest POS comp. ever made even the mods can't help it.

It's funny how I ended up buying Alesis stuff, I realised all the gear that I have is Alesis'. I have alesis f/w mixer, amp, monitor, synth, and maybe compresser too if I know how to MOD it. The truth is I never really intented to buy them ( Alesis) but with my budget I think they are the best at their price range. I was reading the article of Alesis 3630 compresser saying the most popular dynamics processor ever made. But I think RNC is much better according my survey comparison, I'm thinking of getting one. But if I know how to modified 3630 compresser it would be interesting. If you know or have how to modified 3630 please let me know the result.

Thanks,V

Even if you modded the 3630 you can't polish a turd like I posted earlier FMR RNC hands down no modding required on the RNC.

Why is 3630 Compressor™ has become the most popular dynamics processor ever made? Is it just outdated

The 3630 is evidently a pretty good compressor design overall, let down by poor component choice and a few silly design faults on the part of the manufacturer.

It's not something I have experience with (pre or post mod) but plenty of folks who's opinions I respect have said the mod is worthwhile. It makes a crappy piece of gear, with no resale value fairly useable. Of course, it helps if you like playing around with the insides of gear anyway

Some good discussion here and here.

Of course if you're buying new anyway and if playing with a soldering iron isn't your idea of fun then you might as well buy something that's decent to start with.
