Le Muffin Strikes Again

Hello guys and gals.

I've been working on this electronic piece. As per suggestions from the SnakeDog5050, I've finally mixed the electronic and the guitar music. Here's an attempt.

As usual any critiques of the mix, playing, arrangement, instrumentation, production are welcome. Hope everyone enjoys this.

Anything that sounds wrong, please comment on it. I'd really like to try to take my mixing to a pro level.

Thanks all.

Nice one Bubba...some of the guitars could be more prominent....they seem a bit lost at times. Tough call on specifics, as I'm a guitar player, so make that right upfont. You might not want this in your song here, as it could hide the Electronic beat too much. But if you can make the guitars a bit brighter, that might bring out certain edges of them.

Small nit, but might sound good. Try it, and if it don't work, sorry...

Dogman, thanks for listening. I appreciate it.

Well, I was having the same feeling of the guitars occassionally being a little dull. I downloaded and used an exciter on the solo towards the end. It's not easy to find a good harmonic exciter. Except for the one by iZotope, but I don't wanna pay.

Anyhoo, Each guitar is double (except for intervals ones) and played again with a different tone to give it that big feeling but they lack a certain flash, I keep feeling.

Also, if you'll notice that the electronic stuff is limited to one bass item and one rhythm item mostly panned to one side leavning enough room for a guitar. A good mix engineer should be able to fit a guitar in, I'd say.

So I'll try a few more things.

bigbubba - very hot synth lines and lead riffing ....very danceable.....
The leads seem pretty even with the synth in most of the tune, They could come up at the very beginning and at 1:42 and 2:18 to match the synth but other than that they are just right. I especially like the last solo - nicely done and the effect is pretty cool....

BB,
The intro is very long - but the perseverance is rewarded. there were some interesting "found" noises going on ih it that kept me interested.
I can't work out whether i was the guitar to blast or sit where it is - that's a creative decision for YOU.

Thanks Ido. I appreciate you listening to this piece and commenting on it.

I've changed it quite a bit from the original mix that Dogman had commented on. I've tried to make the guitars a little louder. Anyhoo, I think the very first guitar solo is kind of not fitting. I should do it again.

Thanks Ray. I appreciate you listening and commenting.

I've raised the guitars a little bit. Maybe I've listened to this too long but I just don't really dig this piece anymore. I don't know why. Maybe I haven't heard it loud enough yet.

Cool Bubba, sounding real good. A lot going on here. Love where it gets going at 1:20, guitar there IMO fits nice and good solid beat going. Definitely a lot more complex techno than anything I've tried
There's a lot of cool changes to keep things interesting
I think the 3:03 parts before the chorus might sound cool with power chords mixed in too. Haha, typing as I'm listening, then you do add power chords later. They sound cool, but to my ears could fit a bit even better. They have a dirty thick feel when everything is kind of clean, so maybe some EQ action there to match things up.
Nice work

Hey SnakeDog5050, thanks for listening man. I appreciate you listening and commenting.

I got bored of it 'coz I've played it too much and not loud enough. So the whole point of this "high-energy" techno that I was going hasn't been realized properly with the volume not having gotten cranked up all the way. But now I'm starting to listen again after a day's break.

The dirty thick feel you're talking about, is that the solo on the way out? 'Coz I was kind of trying to make it heavier like really heavy but just couldn't get it to work. This is as good as I could get it. So you're suggesting making it cleaner and leaner?

I'll try to do all this the next mix around. I have so many posts that I've made here that I've gotten so much feedback on and I'm just too lazy to go back implement suggestions and repost links. One of these days.

Thanks again for listening and sorry for rambling.
