Talking Metal mix, will you hear it?

Okey, here's my band. I love to hear suggestions, opinions, hard critics, constructive critic, congrats. The songs are for an upcoming demo CD. We recorded on a friend's studio with a tight budget but we did the best (or I think so, lol)

Maybe you don't like the kind of music we play but you like the mix, or maybe you love death metal but you think my stuff is shit.

If it's possible, separate critics for music and mix. Thanks in advance, great place to know the brutal truth

Hey man, it's a pretty damn good recording. It sounds a little lo-fi at points, but it's still good (some of that may just be Myspace ). Sometiems the vocals are a little too up front, but that's just my opinion.
I like the music too, it's got a killer old school vibe.
I got into that first song alot, the other two were so short...I was hoping to hear more.

Nice job. \m/ \m/

Lightbulb Setting... just in case

Thanks a lot. Just in case, this is the setup we used:
(1) Jackson guitar RR3 with Duncans SH6 on bridge and JB on neck
(2) Ultra cheap Samick bass (a pice of sh*t)
(3) Peavey Bravo 112 with ultra gain actived
(4) Shure SM57 for guitar (close miked)
(5) Shure SM58 for vocal
(6) Direct injection for the bass
(7) Fruity loops for drums
(8) Nuendo
By the way, we got a song that endures 1 second, it's called "Time to take what is mine" hahaha... We're actually recording three new tunes, hope I can upload them as soon they are mastered. Thanks for the advices.

I'll state my taste 1st & then critique:
I don't like DM vocals, generic digital guitar tones & I don't understand DM drums.
That said.
The drums sound a little thin but seem panned well esp the tom runs.
The twin guitar lines work pretty well though they sit strangely in the panning equally apart but one seems up & the other down.
The bass needs a little definition.
The effect behind the vocal, or backing vocals are good.
This seems pretty well recorded - you've done a good job.

Sounds like karaoke. The vocals don't sound like they're in the same room as the music possibly because they aren't crushed like the music which is a bit over done in the compression department. I'd like it better if you backed off the crushing of the drums and instruments and used some compression/expansion over the whole mix. I like that riff at about 2:27.

Without pro shit, I don't think you can do much angrier stuff. Kills. Except for lack of basslines I didn't find nuttin' wrong.

..And that is coming from a bassist, that always thinks the bass should, and will,... RULE!!

The balances are pretty off. The drums are obviously programmed and too buried. The guitars take over everything besides the vocals that stick out like a sore thumb.

Hey thanks for the critic brother... we used a DM "classic" album as a reference to balance the instruments. In order of presence, the instruments goes like this:

Vocals - Guitars
Drum section
Bass

I know there are other DM album where the drums are the most important thing. I've noticed two people mentioned the voice thing... well, it's recorded yet so, any advices of what I can do to blend the voice with the music?
Thanks.

1. Shit, Im thought they were at the same volume... I'll check that. Weird.
2. Yeah, the bass is the worst part. We don't have a bass man so I recorded it with an ultracheap bass. Next time I'll do the bass in MIDI... or get a proper bassist... with a good sounding instrument... and a good technique, lol

What about compression? Should I use and external compressor or just pass it for a plug in? Ideas¿

Thanks brother, I also dig Malignant tumor. Some guys here in Lima things this tune is a joke. I say: "Is heavy, fast and brutal... what else do you want?"

Well, about the Classid DM album... I used "The bleeding" as reference to mix... and also "The wretched spawn" form Cannibal Corpse (which I think is one of the best mixed/mastered death metal albums ever) We also considered at one time to refer the sound of "Kill", but we finally choose the other ones.

PD: I will upload the tunes on MP3 in my website, be patient, I'm with a lot of work this morning. Thanks for the comments.

The little I could here before the player stopped on me sounded awsome man.
Very extreme vox, nice and heavy guitars.
Good balance
