focusrite platinum penta

Hey,

I've found one used for 200$ CAN, wonder if it's a good investment, mainly for the compressor/limiter. The preamps will be useful, but I wouldn't consider buying it if it was just a preamp since I already got a dmp3.

Will it be better then sticking with the waves art trackplug? In other words, would this be a good upgrade?

By the way, yes, my room is treated acoustically

eh, i perfer to use a plugin because i'm forever changing my mind and its easier to adjust a plug than to go through hardware each time..

Plugins are much more versatile. Hence, why I use it exclusively.

Yeah, I'd agree with this-- I'm the same way, but many people swear by tracking certain sources (e.g. vocals, bass, kick, snare, overheads) with compression or limiting.

and when it's time for "mastering" ?(I should just say "pump the volume up a bit and get the ear fatiguing frequencies off"... anyway)

Would this unit give me more control over the track than a supposed mastering plugin like, hum, let's say ozone? Would it had warmth to the sound a vst cannot do? Would the compression be heard less, pump less rapidly than plugins?

I'm looking for some kind of review of the things this unit does well and does bad

thnx for your time

I had one for a few months. Wasn't really impressed with the preamp.
From what I remember the compressor was pretty transparent, but you are stick with using their presets. Not a ton of flexibility.

No, it does the job but it's nothing to get excited about. Pretty much like all the Focusrite platinum stuff, OK for the money but it's not going to knock your socks off.
