sync kinda off sync
I recently figured out how to sync my Triton with FL Studio(until i can afford an mpc
). I set the triton and fl on the same temp but for some reason, they get off tempo after a few minutes. I have no clue what to tweak to resolve this. Can anyone help me? |

MIDI Time Code (MTC) is your friend.
If you just set the two devices to the same tempo, and press START, they will drift out of sync. This is because each device is using its own internal clock as a reference. You have to have some way of getting them both to march to the same drummer, so to speak. That's where MTC comes in. Get one device to transmit MTC (i.e., be the "master"), and set the other to listen to it (the "slave"). When you press START on the master, the slave automatically starts and stays locked in perfect sync with the master. (You have to have a MIDI cable connected from the master's MIDI OUT to the slave's MIDI IN, by the way.) ... Or perhaps you've already tried this, and for some reason it didn't work? Don

I have the midi cable going from the midi out of the triton to the midi in of my audiophile sound card. The midi signal is going into FL studio and when i press start on the triton, FL starts also but gets off sync after a few measures. I tried the opposite setup of the midi out from audiophile going into the midi in of triton but i got no response from the triton. Imma grab my triton manual and see how to send mtc to FL.

I don't know fl studio, but in most sequencers you have to ability to the them where they get their clock and whether to transmit midi clock and on what midi ports channels.
You didn't tell us who you want as the master and who you want as the slave. Where do your equences live? You need to have the master transmit midi clock on the proper port/channel and have the slave set its clock to external. Quote:

I got it now. At first, i tried the triton as the master and fl as the slave. But, i like fl's sequencer better so i switched the cables around. At first it didn't work but i had to set the triton's clock to ext. It was dumn mistake. Thanks anyway guys! |

Oh, FL Studio is fruity loops software. They changed the name to FL Studio when version 4 came out.

are you using FL-studio because you dont have MPC yet or, using TRITON because you dont have MPC yet? ...I'm thinking of buying an MPC sooner or later, and I have similiar set-up as you do, I have FL-studio (and some other software) with my Roland VA76 keyboard, but I'm buying TRITON pretty soon...maybe I'll just use Triton with MPC, |

I knew that, I just meant that I don't know the package, never having used it

Like i said in an earlier thread, i got the midi connection to FL Studio to work. There's only one more thing i gotta get straight. For some reason, i can't go to the middle of the song. Whenever i hit play on Fl Studio, it goes back to the beginning on the Triton. All i can do is start from the beginning and record straight thru. I can live with that but if there's a way to move to different areas of a song, i wanna know!

With MTC, the midi master will actually send time code (vs clock, which is just clock msgs at 24 per quarter note) which is based upon musical beats from the start of a song, played at a specific tempo. The MTC msg actually contains song position info so you can start where ever in the track and the slave should follow suit Here is a good site about the midi spec and what everything does: http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/tech/midispec.htm

Midi time code, as the above paragraph says, is a form of Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers time code and is geared for video and for video capable sequencers like Nuendo. It's much better to just go with plain old midi clock, even though the name is less sexy.

I was trying this function out as I was typing and found it to be kinda fussy but it does work. One more thing --- be sure the sequence in your Triton is as long or longer than the FL sequence. .
