Eurotrack UB802 Mixer settings?

I'm using this mixer with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and I'm not sure on how what to set the knobs to. I know how to work everything inside of Cool Edit Pro. I just need to know what should I set my mixer to? How do I determine where to set each knob?

Plug your microphone into channel one on the mixer and turn the phantom power on. Then sing or have someone else sing into the mic while you bring up the level on whats labeled the 'gain' which is meant to get you in the rough ballpark.

Once you see the the levels in Cool Edit do the fine tuning with the level knob at the bottom of the channel strip. You may need to reset the gain so that the level knob is about in the middle.
