Is Wavelab useful...

... umm what effects does Wavelab have and do the effects sound real; like outboard gear?

Is Wavelab made by the company that also makes Pro tools?

Wavelab is from steinberg, the guys that are making cubase.

If Wavelab is useful for you depens on what you´d like to do. The new version is also sort of audio arranger, analyzer and CD burning program.
Read the deskription and thnk about what you wanna do.

I've been using it for a short time and find it very useful. I guess the effects are pretty good, but I don't use them too much, relying on it primarily for simple editing which is a breeze. It's very easy to use.

Keep in mind that my only other experience with audio software has been with Goldwave and some other smaller programs.

How does Wavelab compare to Vegas?

For me Wavelab is essensial! its been the only program thats enabled me to burn my CDs without any problems at all.
Iv been using Nero burning for my Audio CDs and not only does it take a dame long time to burn a CD it failes quite alot? In Wavelab it takes me 18min to burn a whole CD and 35min in Nero.

Also unlike cubase I can apply EFX to only certain parts of a wave and as many EFX as I want "but its permenent"

Wavelab dosent compare to Vegas. Wavelabs is a powerful audio editor. Vegas is a multitrack program. To very different things. I use Vegas to track and mix and Wavelab to master for example. Both are very easy to use, so they are similar in that respect.

Wavelab is also a great ripper, it gets that data off a CD real fast.
It also has "Live Input" which allows you to record with realtime plugin FX..the only recorder that does it as far as I know.

I would venture a guess that Wavelab would be the best wav editor and software mastering combo around that's even close to affordable for home use. Actually, I've never used anything that's more expensive so maybe it's one of the best period far as software goes unless you get into a full blown ProTools system or something similar, but what do I know. It's definitely better in my opinion that SoundForge and a couple others I've tried. I think Wavelab and the Waves plugins are great but those plugins can get expensive. James is right though, it's not multitrack software like Vegas.

Do a search of the BBS for Wavelab, cause I know we've had this conversation before about the quality of Wavelab. You'll probably come across a lot of useful into.
