why do children like poking speaker domes so much? seriously? is it the shape? the color? size? i've had to slap away more than a few grubby little fingers from my speaker domes. there is some kind of attraction here.....maybe it reminds kids of a nippal? maybe if the domes were square this would'nt happen? i remember pokin' a few domes myself as a kid. i don't know why i did it but do remember enjoying it. wtf?

Because domes WANT to be poked; nay, they BEG to be poked. They tease us. Laying there nestled in their comfy cones, sticking their smooth, perfect curves out at us constantly, often dressing themselves up in titilating precipitated semi-precious metals and bright contrasting coil gaps. They obviously wanted and deserved what they go....er....ummm....my lawer just whispered in my ear that I should just answer, "No comment." Thank you.

Have you looked into an Autopoke?

It's a thinline device that rests on top of the speaker that has a sensor on. When anything with stubby little jelly stained fingers approaches it a mechanical finger is ejected into the offenders eye.

It's a cousin of the Autoslap, that thing that drops down from the ceilings of restaurants and smacks the crying brat or the cell phone user sitting behind you when you're trying to enjoy a meal.

there's altogether too much use of Autopoke these days.....

Whatever happened to the days were people learnt how to poke first and didn't expect the engineers to fix up their poking for them?????

LMAO I took to using the offending fingers as bassdrum dampening, obviously I left the fingers intact to the hands (parents may have a problem with me cutting fingers off)

haha I remember my lil' cousin when she was about 4 playing with the stereo & it was up purdy loud & BANG!!!! there was some music from the CD player coming from these big monsters on stands!!!! she never went near a speaker again

Potato sacks aren't just for races anymore. If that doesn't work, potato sack + a swift caning. My two cents.

Thanx guys, really good to hear that you can relate to what I'm going through at the moment.....sitting back, looking at my once beautiful sound system....

the words of a young mother in my own house saying,"..don't panic....they're just speakers.." ,reverberating through my head!...

auto-poke, potato sacks, loud bangs, upright bass case.......
I'm gettin ready for next time!!....little pricks!
regards, SS.

It just so happens that I've got couple of cheap spare micro CMOS colour cameras and a 2 channel mini video transmitter. My speakers are now on stands, quite high off the ground, and they're heavy, and they're very very, how would you say....
....wobbley!
I could install one CMOS device into where the tweater is and the other further away, giving more of an 'elevation' view.

I want to try and create a toddler pancake.....and record it.

Would that be ok?

The shiny concave surface reflects their widdle faces & the fisheye distortion emphasises their noses &, as is their want, they try to put their widdle fingah up their reflected nose & hey presto, pressed in dome. Snot exactly the response you were after I guess but if a kid's gonna muccus about with the speaker membrane you'de better hope they pick a winner.
