Which vocal reverb/effects unit to buy?

I'm looking for a reverb or effects unit for studio vocal recording. Can be new or used, budget is $400.
What do you all suggest?

As Bruce said, the MPX 500 is a good buy. American Musical ( http://www.americanmusical.com ) has it for $399 now.

What's the difference between the MPX 500 and the MPX-1? Is it worth the extra $350? Will these take a miced accoustic instrument and play with it's sound? Do either offer distortion? It's seems the VF-1 offers all this for less, what am I getting more with the MPX series?
