1U Rackmount chasis for DIY projects?

Hi, I am looking for rackmount chasis for DIY electronics projects. For example, I want to make an A/B/C switchbox for balanced line level signals. Or say a box for a DIY preamp. Anyone have a list of suppliers for this kind of stuff?

Thanks,
James

you could probably easily make one with a rack shelf and then a front piece...which you'll be customizing anyway for whatever you are putting in the unit

I orderd some from mouser electronics. They carry a 4" deep chassis called a small chassis. The manufactur is BUD. There kinda high. You do better getting 10 of them. You have to buy the top cover extra. I bought 10 and sold the other nine on ebay to get a good deal on the one.

If you do get 10 make sure that there all in stock or they will rape you on the shipping.

Assuming you're in the states all the US DIYers I know use Par-metal for cases.

http://www.par-metal.com/

And you spell it "chassis" with a double S. I don't say that to be an asshole but it might make life easier when you're doing searches and stuff online.

If anyone is in the St Louis area, I have about 15 old CATV processors that are 2U each. If you gut them, they'd be great rack mount kit boxes. Thre free but pick up only.

Yeah got any pics? If I can use em, I might buy a few from ya if you wanted to sell them. The cheapest 1u chassis kits I have seen are $50! Need to find a deal =P

I don't have any pix. They're about 15-16" deep. They'd make great kit boxes or rack shelves. I also have a BUNCH of 2U blank rack spacers that could be used as a face plates so you could put holes where you need them or none at all. I'll be pitching them in a dumpster if I get no takers.

Called up Enclosures and Cases since they don't have their prices listed on the web site. And he said their cheapest 1u rackmount chassis, in single quantity, is $109. That's $60 more than par-metal's most affordable case.

Scratch head.

I have no idea why they would quote it that high. I just bought 2 2u 12" deep enclosures for $65 ea last month

Dang, wish I had a good reason to go to St. Louis soon! It is about a 3hr drive for me and I rarely have a need to go out that way, so pitch them if you must.......or if you ever happen to take a trip to springfield, give me a buzz...

I too have been looking for a 2U Chassis to use in a DIY project but after Searching all over the net it was going to cost me close to $100 to get it too my Door so I figured I would try makeing one.....

What I used was an Old PC case and Severely modded it so it was a 2U rack case...It is about 17in by 15in and about 4in tall so I will be able fit Several Channels of Pre amp in it or do pretty much any Tube project ect.....

if anyone is Interested I"ll post some Pics of it if you want....

Cheers

Free free free. Did I mention free? Come and get 'em. I'll throw in a 6'/19" relay rack to the third caller.
