Exclamation Monitors or preamp???...priority question...

Hey everyone. I have been working with the projectmix io and protools for about 3 months now and I have to monitor with are a pair of excelent sounding headphones...and I know that I cant get a true sounding mix through headphones, so my question is this:

Should I get the new Event precision 8 monitors or should I wait on the monitors and upgrade the preamps on the project mix (because they dont seem to be powerful enough) by buying the onyx 800R... ???

I just need to know which is more important for the overall setup! Thanks alot,

James Duysen

Do you want to improve the recording or the mixes? From there it's self-explanatory.
If you have good sound from each instrument but you're after a better mix, then get monitors. If you're getting crap recordings to start with, you need better pre-amps...

You can not tweak what you can not hear - Hence, you will only ever be as good as your monitors allow you to be no matter what else is in the chain.

That's an easy one for me. Good monitors. If I can critically listen to what I'm doing, then I can often find creative ways to work around weaknesses in the sound. But I've got to trust what I hear.
