Who's got the best free plugs?

I've tried a bunch, some OK, some crap. But there's a LOT more out there and I don't have time to D/L all of them try them all and sort them out. But I'm about to start mixing our newly retracked demo and haven't got @#$% to work with.

Slim slow slider c3 multiband comp. Use the digital crossover filters, not the "analog" ones.

Slim slow slider linear phase graphic EQ. Yes, graphic. But it sounds really good.

Digitalfishphones Blockfish compressor/limiter.

SIR verb.

Most of the plugs that come with Reaper sound very good, but I've only used them a little.

Thumbs up

Yes the Classic Series are a great free set of plugins

Voxengo SPAN
Is a great free Real Time Analyzer for free
http://www.voxengo.com/product/SPAN/

They have a number of free other plugins. Unfortunely haven't had time to test any of them. So I don't know how good they are, but they seem to be committed to producing professional sounding plugins. Wouldn't hurt to try them out too.

For reverb, try Dasample GlaceVerb and Christian Knufinke's SIR_1008, both free.

For delay try the Kjaerhus Classic Delay already mentioned, then the E_Phonic Tape Delay.

For multi effects the Luxionix LFX-1310 and KarmaFX.

That should get you started...

LMC-1

Enjoy this on your compressed drums track ...

what i do is route my drums to a stereo buss named DRUMS .... i then insert a send on each drum track to a DRUMS COMPRESSED stereo buss... i stick the LMC-1 on this buss and an EQ and pump the low and high .....i then turn this fader way down ...and bring it up to slightly below the level of the DRY drums buss ......it makes the drums a lot more full and punchier ...

i believe this is known as New York / Parallel Compression... and apparently this plug in is great for this kind of application

The attackand release are set for ambient drum mics or vocals, so prob not best compressor for most applications as its very limited.

+1 to the Kjaerhus classic series.
- The reverb is usable and not too CPU intensive
- The Classic Delay is pretty nice
- Classic compressor sounds nicer (meaning more transparent) than most sub $500 budget hardware comps out there
- Classic Phaser and Flanger, not so great...

The SIR1010 reverb will blow your doors off, IF you have the CPU power to run it.

I like this multi-effect Flanger/Chorus/Digital delay.

They work together or separate in any combination.

And of course FREE
