Highest amount you've ever made off a beat?

What's the highest amount you've ever gotten for one beat? For me, $100(Horrible mistake cause it was worth way more than that but had no gas. )

I sold one for $750 dollars to Imperial Entertainment here in Dallas a while back, that was the highest amount for me. I've sold many leases & licenses also, but those tend to go out the door cheap.

my highest was just $100. I felt like i had to do it even though i know my music is worth way more than that. at the time i just needed some money so i sold a couple beats, but honestly i really felt like crying because i felt like i was playing myself. music is much more to me than just a few bucks, it's more personal, so when i made that $100 off my music i really didn't feel like i accomplished anything, really i felt like i lost a moment of my time...the time in which i created the music, but like i said the money was needed so i did what i had to do...

no sampling, I dont' believe in sampling, though there's some cats who are talented samplers, but thats them. I like to make original stuff.

I don't sample often. I see where you can take it and make it yours, but I feel kind of cheap when I take a sample and add to it (unless it's like contest shit and that's the format for it). I prefer to go all original if I can.

Highest amount paid for original beats: $1000 custom made track (only happened a few times though).

Highest amount paid for a sampled track: $400

Most original use of a sample: Had a artist pay me $250 to make a new beat based off a track they did a couple of years back, so I took their acapella and chopped it up and made a new beat around it while still following the same flow of the original song they did (it was supposed to be a sequel to the original track).

i sample.

it was sampled.

it was cleared.

i dont believe in people saying they dont believe in sampling. thats the foundation of hip-hop music. off the sample.

i admire people who can come with original shit. hell i play piano, guitar, drums, and ive been a dj for a good part of 8 years. musically, i can do it. it just doesnt appeal to me personally.

maybe its because a majority of the people come with original shit are corny sounding. i hear the same motif kicks, the same triton synths, the same sounds over and over.

i gotta give it up to the orignal folks cause its a lot of work to make a RAW original beat actually sound original and fresh.

but me... i gotta have some soul in it... i dont dig for these rare ass soul/funk records to leave them dusty... imma use them shits and enlighten people on some music theyve never heard before in a new way.

i sample and im good at it.

Before i start yappin, i'm not dissin sampling or nothing. I like sampling. This is just in reference to original beats.

Being original is sort of a jewel. There's so many cats out here makin beats now and the number is increasing by the second. Everyone wants to be a "producer". Quincy Jones is probably laughin at these cats! Alot of folks are startin to make basically the same beats, just a different note or drum here and there.
To be original, you gotta do some out the box type of stuff. Some people might like it, some people might not. But, forget that! Who cares who likes it if your getting paid for it! For instance, neptunes and outkast. They have some of the craziest stuff i've ever heard, but alot of it i like. And i admire them for thinking out tha box. It is pretty messed up to be original when alot of cats use the same keyboards. This is the point where you get out the box and use real instruments or rare stuff. It doesn't even have to be an instrument! I used a salt shaker once! Go in the dollar store and get one of them $5 keyboards and add some weird stuff to your beats. Sounds crazy, but you never know. Beat on pots and pans, jugs, what ever you have to do to be original.

Wow some of you really make much off of this. 1000$ damn lol. And I think 100$ already is much hehe. I don't know how much I should ask for my beats, and I never sample... lets say what should I ask for A Legend's Road? The soundclick link is in my sig.

i dont know how much you should charge for that beat, Jayarre, but i like it... all except for the intrusive snare hit. a little harsh on the ears when the rest of the track is so mellow. also... where's the bass drum? it only comes in every so often. i think that should hit hard, it sounds sweet, i'd like more of it, especially during the verses.

Some people preference is to not sample and you have to respect that part of the game too. Yeah, early pioneers of hiphop sampled, but they had a lot less to work with. I have heard some samples that I thought was off the hook. But I heard others that was a mess......I like the versatility of the game, as long as it stays street.

word up... its all love to me... i like it all... my boy chris does nothing but original shit... this dood brought out a reel to reel recorder outside during 4th of july and recording cats lighting fireworks off...

wow... shit turned into a HEATER.

haha

id love to get more into making more original beats someday, when it hits me to... but right now... ive been addicted to diggin for rare shit for about a decade... and when youre surrounded by it... why not use it.

like i said, propers to them folks making some heat with original beats. i love it.

but i also love to hear a beat where all of a sudden you cant believe someone flipped an old joint that way.. and you go bananas cause youre like how the fuck did they compress that shit in a way that it sounds totally different, or chop it up so that the vocals say something else...

that right there is the shit that me, personally... really turns my head.

like when dilla did flight of the bumble bee on the shining... with busta over it... wow i was goin nuts

No samples... Artists don't like to deal with all the clearence... We'll make a live band session and then cut up our own samples. Or we'll use albums we have made for samples... Make's life easy...

I usually have a contract when I sell beats with samples.

But even still, most of the time, you dont have to worry about it unless youre selling it to a major... and in that case, they have lawyers and other employees spefically for clearing samples.

the only time you should have to worry is when folks start sellin maaaad records and getting airplay and shine on tv...

in most cases though, this is never really the outcome. gotta make sure you cover your bases, so in any situation you probably wanna do your homework.

i aint sweat de law
