M4U is a file type ( sorry about being so vague )
Someone extracted the audio from a concert DVD and forwarded a RAR file, and all the songs were M4U instead of MP3.
I can play on my PC, using a DIVX player, but I would like to put songs on CD to listen to in the car. That's where I listen mostly.

Ooops, maybe it's M4A --- it's on my home PC

I found this web site after just a single Googling.

M4U is a playlist type. It doesn't contain any audio data at all, it's simply a list of songs to play and where they are located on your computer.

M4A is a type of audio compression (invented?) used by Apple. It does contain audio data, so songs can be M4A files.
