hi people,

I'm in dire need of serious reverbs and delays and all sorts of vocal fx cos the plugins I have now just don't cut it.

I have been looking at the mpx 1 @$700, but I need to know if the high end software fx can compare to boxes like the mpx1 or tc m-one.

I know the advantages of having software is that you can put the fx on every channel, but if it doesnot sound right, then....

I need help from you guys, especially those who have a/bd
software versus boxes.

'precc.

Hi CyanJaguar,

what Software do you use?
The Waves Trueverb is very common and I like it very much.
It depends mostly on your CPU power, but I personally like to have some Hardware, because then I donīt have to switch on the computer all the time and donīt have to care about latency etc.
There is also a Freeverb spread through the net, which I heard is of good quality. Most of the FX has to be adjusted very well, they donīt have presets or they donīt sound as needed.

hi Eebaf,

I use the sonic foundry reverb and chorus and delay,
and while they sound useable(chorus is definitely not useable), I have not been able to duplicate one reverb that I have heard on a pro song.

I also have freeverb, which is also useable but I still cant get it.

I just changed my monitoring postion and my amplifier(but not the Ns10ms) so that now, I can hear MOST of the reverb tail, and it seems that the well recorded songs have a warmer tail, or something, that I just cant duplicate, and when they have long lush tails, the reverbs still work well.

help

Hi again,

maybe it helps: did you try to use an EQ just before the reverb plug-in?

hi Eebaf,

Yes, I mostly use eq before the reverb.

By the way, I was messing with Freeverb and the Sonic foundry reverb last night, and I have to say, freeverb is a much better sounding verb than the sonic foundry verb.

Hi Cyan,

I didnīt found the Sonic Foundry on my PC, I think I threw it away. Try the waves true Verb that will sound like the MPX1 and MPX 500, M-one is the same class.
There is a new Waves "Renaissance Reverb" coming out that will sound like the PCM 91 and 81.
But to get professional Reverb out of a plug-in you need to experiment with different filters early reflection times etc...I doubt if the SF will do for you.
If you can afford it buy a pcm 91 or 81 they īre kinda studio standard

The PCM81 is a really really nice unit. It has some really great reverbs for snares, and some amazing plate reverbs. get it if you can afford it.

thanks guys,

I talked to a sweetwater sales engineer and he basically told me the same thing. Lexicon rules. BUt he wanted to sell me the mpx1 for $750 when it can be had for $700 brand new and $500 used. He got mad at me when I said I had seen it for $700.

I will check the lxp on Ebay, and if they are right, I will grab one.

I can't afford a new pcm81, but I have seen a used pcm80 on ebay for $800 and I think they are about the same as the 81 ?

yes..the PCM80 and 81 are in the same ballpark...but $800 on Ebay....that was a pre-ending price....like maybe the first couple of bids or so. If you can find one for under a grand, I'd say you got a deal (in price).

studio update

ok,

Well I could not get the mpx 1 that I had bid on at my price($510).

So in my impatience, I used "buy it now" to get an lxp 1.
I was listening to sonusman's work at the time and that justified it.

Anyhow, if I can't get the sound I want out of it, then there is no hope(I am also upgradeing my cables to monster).
-----------
Does anybody know where I can get an mrc controller for my lxp-1? for not too much money?

thanks
