One silly question....
I recently visited a studio where its bass traps are suspended from the ceiling. I also asked the studio owner where the bass traps are located, and he answered its hanging from the ceiling. Silly me..but i forgot to ask what material he had used. what are possible materials that he could have used for the bass traps? is it stuffed mineral wool?(pink stuff)

But there was a big wooden panel hanging...and whatever he used for the traps were above the wooden panel...it was impossible to see.

Was the panel flat or curved? Steve

If you could see it was a wood panel, and it was 2-3" thick, my guess is its a MEMBRANE..er Panel Absorber, which is simply a panel with a frame.. Don't ask me why its hanging below bass traps..er wait a minute..this IS a bass trap.. but it should be up against a boundary for best performance...supposedly

Well, I USED to believe that.
In fact, as of this week, I don't know what to believe when it comes to this subject..read this and you will see why. And if anyone else reads it and can answer my questions I'd appreciate it, cause no one has responded at that site so far.http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6895 fitZ

But aren't there rockwool or rigid fiberglass sitting on top of the panel? (we can't really see the fiberglass)

Supposedly....AND "supposedly, at least what has been part of "net fact" for as long as I can rememberr, they are supposed to be like a wall cavity, being hermetically sealed...or so I thought. They should also have a rigid "back" as well in order to be...ahem...sealed.... but from my understanding on that thread so far...this is really questionable. UNTILL someone shows me lab proof now, I ain't gonna believe nutten any more.

PS Rod. I started to post a thankyou at that thread, but had to think about Erics reply for a while. Just to let you know, I'm a little embarrased as to my attidude considering what he said. But I see HIM getting thrown off bbs's from HIS attitude and it makes me wonder...hmmm, must be nice in an Ivory Tower.
Anyway, thanks.

Rick, Eric's post on Saturday 9-9-06 on the John Sayers thread is possibly the best explanation of panel trap/wall theory I've seen all in one place - the only thing left out is an answer to your question about PLACEMENT choices/reasons, which wasn't under discussion there anyway.
The answers to THAT set of questions would take more time than I have right now, (check your email, BTW) but put that on your "talk about" list so we can "flog it to death" on the phone - I'll be glad to discuss it til we both drop dead or you say "enough", whichever happens last :=) ... Steve

So as to not misinform, a quick check in Everest's 'The New Stereo Soundbook'..here you go. Placing near one wall (Vs free space), the low end adds +6, in a corner +12, at three sides +18. Wayne |

Could this be a bass trap issue because i have a panel trap right under the monitor that is bass heavy?
