Sorry, but you bought the wrong mic. A U87 won't record rap. It was designed in the 60's and rap hadn't been invented yet. You need a mic specifically designed for rap! You're going to have to re-post and ask "what's the best rap mic" in the subject line. They'll be able to tell you which mic sounds best for all unknown rap sources.

Apparently he "inserted" a mic, and put in a bucket of water (or something like that) to help get the sounds for Yellow Submarine, only to realize later that it was a condenser mic with phantom power running to it and he was lucky no one got electrocuted.
