Question

I own a Behringer Virtualizer DSP 1000 and I am not very happy with it. The transformer is very noisy, I can hear humm all the time, but fortunately not much in the signal. The effects are also a little bit noisy and there is not much headroom. As I mentioned in another post, I am using the mindprint stuff and I think the behringer canīt match their quality. Would a lexicon MPX 1, MPX 100 or the MPX 500 fit into my setup?

heres a random thought...what kind of cables are you using? Lame cables with flimsy insulation will pick up signals from everthing and hum like my uncle Buck.

hi Eebaf,

I've heard the mpx 1, and it rocks.

The question I face now is: should I get the mpx 1(or a comparable box), Or is the new software as good as the boxes.

The software is cheaper, but the software fx I have now have given me a negative view about software fx.

but I don't think that you can go wrong with the mpx 1, unless of course you can find a pcm 81 used on ebay for $750
.

By the way Eebaf, The next pre I am getting is the mindprint en-voice. gotta love the sound of it.

Another quick fix is to seperate your audio cables from various power cables in your setup. Audio close to 120/240v is a sonic no-no.

Thanks so far,

my cables are OK they are all brand new expensive ones, though not balanced (sounds better)and taped together etc.
Maybe it was not clear enough, the main problem is the physical ( I mean acoustical) humm of the transformer, because the fx unit is right underneith my small monitor speakers. Itīs a small Homestudio. I think I should write to Beringer if this noise is normal.
Despite that I will go see my music store to try out the
budget Lexicon FX, MPX 1 and MPX 500. Maybe I can sell the Virtualizer later.

bvaleria will become famous soon enough
A lot of Behringer stuff has ground loop problems, especially using unbalanced lines. Switch to a balanced configuration or use an isolation transformer (such as Ebtech's Hum Eliminator).
