New "Death Metal" Song...need comments

Ok, here is a song that I have a good amount of work done on.

2 Guitar tracks panned left
2 Guitar tracks panned right
1 Bass track panned in the center
1 Drum machine track

http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=4834

Please, no comments on the drums not sounding human. I am just looking for comments on the mix
I would love any and all comments regarding the mix, good and bad. Any suggestions as well for a better mix?

Thank you for your time.

The clicky snare(?) is kind of overpowering everything in the mix - IMHO. If you could tone that down a bit it would be fine. Sorry - I know you said avoid drum remarks but.....

The guitars are nicely panned and have a good sound to them. The bass is carrying the bottom end nicely.

Hot playing BTW....

Thank you for the comments. I have been working on the drum sound just a little bit but more of getting a good over all mix. Still lots to learn....

So you think lowering the snare a bit would help? In some of my previous mixes I had the snare lower but it seemed to get lost in the blast beats.

Glad to hear that you liked the song in general. I hope to have vocals for it with-in the next week or so. I will keep you posted.

Your recordings sound like mine and that's not good haha. I say that because my recordings are too muddy like this. I wish I could tell you how to fix it.

I must agree that it is a big improvment from my last recordings so hopefully I am headed in the right direction. I am happy overall with it...

Here is a newer version I just mixed. I think it might still be a bit muddy bit not as much and this has more punch to it as well.

this is not my style of music, so take my comments as you will. but, i think it sounds like a wall of mud. its just a barrage of noise that doesnt seem to follow any rhyme or reason. dont get me wrong, the playing is excellent, it just sounds all mashed together and overly frantic. and i know you dont want drum comments, but those crazy ass robotic fills and blast-beats are very distracting. maybe thats what youre looking for, but to me it just makes it unlistenable. no offense bro, just my 2 cents.

I appreciate the comments, I really do. I will agree that it does sound muddy as I would like to have the guitars a bit more distinguishable from the bass. The drum fills are a bit fast but that is cool with me, if your not familar with death metal music then the blast beats will not sit well with you. Beleave it or not there are allot of real human death metal drummers that play faster than what I have here.

Thanks again for taking the time to listed, if you have any suggestions of making the mix any better please post them.

Peter

I played with the drums a bit and then added some EQ and compression to the overall mix. Did a little tweaking here and there.

Glad you like it dude, expecially since your into metal. The vocals should be soon, just trying to get over this cold so I can get the vocals done.

I really like the trash band, reminds me of old Sodom and I love old Sodom. Nice job on the mix and overall sound. The guitars really stand out and everything sounds tight. I wish the vocals were a bit more thrashy or maybe scratchy but overall Killer work dude.

Guitars sound a bit boxy. Drums should be louder, but I suppose you wanted to hide them a bit.

There is a bit of boominess in the lo end. I would work on the lo end for the bass and maybe guitars also. PLay with the lo mids to get a cleaner mix.

Good stuff.

It you listen to my new mix alone I think it sound decent, a mit heavy on the bottom end mut decent. If you listen to it directly after listening to some other death metal song or metal song period you notice just how much more bottom end or maybe "muddy" my mix is.

This is some hard shit to learn. Mix, remix, remix again and again and again. Still have lots learn.

well its not the speed of the drums that makes it weird to me, its just that it sounds fake and way too precise. if it sounded more realistic, i think it would sit better and fit in. im not anti-speed-metal, its just not something i regularly listen to. maybe give some roominess to the drums to make them sound more like an actual kit.

MM...metal.

Nice heavy tune! Just plain ol' death to my taste.
..I'd add some high-mids to gits, just a tad to get some "rip".. and maybe put the bassist to play different notes than guitars so they might be separated some, but that's jazz!?
Decent headbanging!

this is too damn slow to be death metal music! LOL! I agree, there are "real"
drummers who play much faster than your drum machine. I remember a friend
playing Cannibal Corpse for me and thinking "What the fuck??." It felt like my
teeth were rattling loose!

Ok, I think I have removed a good deal of the mud from the song/mix. I boosted the mids on the guitars as well as on the overall mix. It is not nearly as muddy or as much low-end. I think the guitars come thru allot more on this. Let me know if you guys think I am headed in the right direction or not.

Here is the new mix: http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=4891

Yes, the drums sound like a drum machine as I have not spent much time tweaking to make them sound "human". I still have tons to learn as to what it takes to make them sound like a real drummer.
