Reggae

I cannot spell reggae.

Recorded these guys over the weekend. They were great to work with and really good on their instruments. A lot different from the usual 17 year olds playing hardcore that I'm used to.

Anyway. I'll post what I used later. I haven't mixed this other than some compression on the vox and some verb. I just wanted to get some opinions on levels for this type of music. Any suggestions for some stuff to listen to to get a feel for it?

I don't know what's going on with the timbale at the beginning and in the middle. I just threw some quick verb on it for now but that's probably not how it will end up. Again suggestions are appreciated.

Also there are a couple pops and clicks in the mixdown but it's just a rough quick mixdown so I could post it up so just ignore them.

P.S. Mixing with clean guitar instead of seven layers of insanely distorted guitar is sooooooooooo much easier.

Not familiar with reggae.

But I like the way you've pushed the guitar into the front of the song along with the vocals.

Interestingly, at low volume the guitar is great but at a loud volume it steps on the vocals some....

Maybe could use a tad of reverb on the guitar to give it some sweetness....just maybe....

This is a nice and punchy mix on my earbuds.....

I'm not sure about the levels everything should be at. I'm used to mixing and recording punk/rock/hardcore stuff, so I'm sure that's why I put the guitars so hot. I like the sound, though, and so does the band. I'll try some verb on the guitars to see if that brings the vox up front more.

People at gearsluts are saying the guitar/bass tuning is out of wack? Anybody noticing that?

These kinda bands really make live festivals a real go go when the suns shining and youve got reggae playing in the background the bassline is cool and quite different to other reggae style basslines (im taking the mighty dub band Dreadzone) but yes I like the jam from these guys and theres not a lot to mix here as the sounds quite full with what youve done already .interesting rthymns... nice work dude.

Cool song! Dig the reggae groove, nice guitar work/tones and bass part. At times it sounds like you could seperate the vox from the guitar a bit. Not sure though since sometimes it sounds clear/sometimes not.
Nice punk reggae breaks later, good stuff overall

The bass line is different - too fast & high for me. The whole song is actually a lot closer to Ska than Reggae due to the tempo. I like the licks the guitarist plays all over BUT the riffy guitar part , though interesting, further distances it from reggae - everything follows the guitar rather than being a reggae/ska underpinning for the guitar to run about on.
Good song & pretty well done recording neverthless.
