Auralex Spraytek-Cheaper Alternatives?

Anyone got a cheaper solution to Auralex's $20 a can Spraytek? I know their stuff is good because of it's less corrosive features, but $20 a can is expensive! I'm putting up 2' X 2" foam (2" thick) wedges on a ceiling that is covered in carpet. There's no way to take the carpet off so I need something that will adhere the foam wedges to the carpet. I don't care if I ruin the carpet.

Ideas? Staple Gun? Velcro Strips?

If there's no way to take the carpet off the ceiling, I'd use whatever you used to put the carpet up.

What is behind the carpet?

If it's sheetrock then I would probably just use long T-Pins.

The contractor who built the studio gave me a huge break in price. Some things had to be negotiated. So I'm dealing with the carpeted ceilings (which were poorly done) by putting up 2 x 2 foam panels. The carpet is mounted directly to 4' industrial foam, so I can't just nail it up, staple it, etc. I need to find some kind of adhesive that will bond well to both foam and carpet, but I'm trying to avoid spending $20 a can on the Auralux Spaytek. If you have any REAL solutions (rather than criticisms- Travis in Florida), I sure could use your thoughts. The common enemy here is gravity!

Assessing the bonding strength of whatever holds the foam to teh ceiling and the carpet to the foam will determine what your options are.

If they won't hold the Auralex plus an adhesive then you need something to pin the foam to the actual ceiling.

Are you concerned about getting the foam down later? If not then just go buy a gallon or two of the least acidic/corrosive adhesive you can find and slap it on there.

3M Super 77, which is a spray-on contact type of adhesive. Caution: whatever you use this on will be stuck for good, so if you want it to be removable, then don't use it. It sells for $13.00 - $15.00 for a large can that covers quite a bit of area.

Super 55 would work too...and it's cheaper. Also, with care, it's removable.
