I need some help

I jus got a mr-8 and i jus don't know how to use it.man all i need to know how to do is load a beat on the multitracker (i already got some on there) and how to record my song with the beat playin.if aome one could help me please. i got the mic and the usb cable and that's all i need i guess

Are you using a drum machine or a computer? I've always had trouble with the USB connection going from my computer to the Fostex (although the other way has always worked fine), so I just run a guitar cable from my headphone jack straight into the first track.

Stick a cable from whatever you are loading your beats from into the input jacks.
1) Arm the track you want to record on by pressing the button above the track and it should light up red.
2) Press record and the button should start flashing
3) Start your beat box and adjust the input levels button top left of the mr-8
4) When you are satisfied with the levels press play and record toghether and the play button lights up green and the record button lights up red (not flashing). You are now recording. WHen you want to stop press stop and rewind.
5) Unarm the track you have recorded on by pressing the red button once and the light should go off
6) Then press play and listen.

THe Mr8 really is that easy. The instruction manual os pretty good and it pays to go through that.

i downloaded some mp3 beats from my computer using the usb cable and all i have is a micro phone.and what do u mean by arm the track? i feel real stupid now cuz i know how to use cool edit pro on my computer but not a multitracker.please elighten me.do u do it through system or track?man i don't know wht i'm talkin bout.

I am having a wee bit of difficulty understanding what you mean. Have you downloaded stuff onto the MR8 yet? You need software from fostex to do that - but it is a free download. You need to convert the mp3 into a wav file sampled at the same rate as what you have set the song as on your mr8. If you don't have a manual pm me and I will try to explain but if you are clearer about the problems you have I may be able to help you better. Keep on truckin!!

I just got one too, and I see what you're talking about. I'm going to need to do the same thing with my drums.

You'd like to "import" a drum file into the MR-8. That would be nice, but you'd need to download that software, so forget that for now until you get the basics down. Your best option now, like the dude above is saying, is to RECORD your drums as they are being played on your computer (in the cool edit program). So, instead of having the speaker cord going to your speakers, you need the speaker cord going into your MR-8. Then you record it onto 2 tracks so you get stereo left and right going on.

Your USB connector won't come into play until you go to transfer WAV files from the MR-8 to your computer. Even then, you could just play the song and record it back onto your computer without the USB if you wanted to.

To walk you through the process of setting up your card, arming a track, and recording onto 2 tracks would be the same as reading from the manual, which is available for download on Fostex's site.

Yep that will certainly work. You can get free programs ro conveert files into .WAV files and upload them to the MR8. I would suggest that you practice this!! I do this a lot now. If I want to cover a song, I convert the mp3 into a wav and upload it to the MR8 and play along with it. It is good fun too!

That's the problem right there. The MR-8 is set up to accept 44.1 Mhz 16-bit .wav files, not mp3 or anything else.
If you don't understand that, you need to do some serious reading and studying before you mess with something like this.

Before you even get involved with the MR-8 seriously, I'd advise you to sell it and get the Zoom equivalent, which happens to have a drum machine feature. I've been using mine for almost a year now for lack of cash, but I hate, hate, hate it.
But if not, go to hitsquad.com/smm and get yourself a file converter. And anything else, since there's a ton of free stuff there. Convert to WAV, then you can load via USB or run a cable to your input and record like it's a live track.
