When Marshalls Ruled the World!!!!

I remember going to concerts in the 70's, and all the bands had the huge Marshall stacks. It was a rite of passage I guess to eventually aquire the stacks to play in a REAL rock band. I was going through some of my old concert stubs and it made me think of the most used amp of that era.

Now here's what I call a stack of Marshalls. Not a bad collection of guitars either.

as far as im concerned, marshalls still rule the world. there may be better sounding amps given the circumstances, but theres not many things in live music more impressive than that marshall name scrawled across a wall of amps.

What I don't get is people who buy Marshall stacks and take the name off the front...

Had a bunch of smaller Marshall hybrids over the years and finally took the plunge and got me a TSL100.

It sits on top of a 1960A 4 x 12" and is just sexy !!

I love it !!

Love your stub collection. I have seen all of those bands back in the 70's and early 80's. Most at the vaunted "Ector County Coloseum" (sp) in Odessa Texas. LOL

I saw Foghat in a small club back in the early 90's.I think only the bass player was an original member. They had enough gear to play a stadium.
My ears bled!

I like how there aren't 4 agiles or jay tursers or any other crap guitars mixed in there. Like an ovation acoustic would look like junk in that company.

I have to admit, though. I think it'd be really cool to drive a forklift into them all with Dave standing there crying like a bitch.

I know. I have tendencies.

I've heard that Van Halen and other bands used to put dummy cabinets on stage just to make it look impressive.

I remember a similiar thing in an interview with Iron Maiden..
Someone asked them how loud all those amps were...
They replied *we don't even use all the bottom row, turned to 4, the rest are for show!"

I love my 87 JCM800 50 Watter sittin on top of 4*12 slant Marshall cabinet. Yes they still do rule. On a side note, I also really like Older Fender Tube amps.

I regret selling my stack

I loved my JCM800 growing up...lots of volume power for jamming in the basement with my friends. Now I want a flat response amp to go with my GT-8 pedal.

Yep. I worked as a stage hand for a while years back, and for a Metallica show, we schlepped 27 marshall cabs onto the stage (three 3X3 stacks). Only 3 of them had speakers in them, the center one in each stack, and only 50 watts driving each one of them.

I had a JCM900 for a long time and it had to have been one of the worst sounding heads I'd ever heard. The distortion was muddy and the clean wasn't very impressive either. My old crate stealth GT-50 sounds better. Just like with any amp, it really depends on the sound you're personally going for. I'm not a fan of the distortion I've heard on most marshall heads (and I've heard many, many of them.)

I personally own a B-52 AT-100 because it sounds ridiculous.

I run it through my mesa boogie 4x12.

Playing either my American strat or my standard tele (which has an emg-81 just waiting to be put in!.)

HUGE sound.

That's just my opinion on marshall heads though. I do however love the cabs.

If you had one that was muddy, there was a problem with it.
There's not a Crate on the face of the earth that sounds better than a Marshall. Blind taste tests' say so!
