Recording question: EQ or Not.

I just purchased a set of KRK 5 monitors, here is my question. I record through a computer sound card which has software that includes an equalizer. Should I set this EQ to off or Flat when recording/mixing my music? Is my goal to have my recording sound "EQ'ed" without the use of the systems EQ?

I'd set it to "Off". Save your EQing for your hardware and software EQs and let the soundcard be as newtral as possible.

Don't forget to EQ when everythings recorded. It's really useful to make sure none of your instruments are getting 'drowned out'

Should I not use an external EQ though? I thought I should EQ my material via the software I am using not the external EQ, this way it sounds good no matter what EQ someone else is using?

Thoughts?

You're correct. "Once everything is recorded", as avieth referred to, your soundcard EQ will have no effect on the recording anyway. At that point, all the soundcard EQ is going to do is color what the playback sounds like on your speakers; it will have no effect on the already recorded tracks. That's when you use your software plugs.
