Modifying an amp
So I've got a Crate solid-state amplifier, a 65w model, and I like it a lot, except it doesn't have an effects loop, which is a problem since I want to do the distortion before the effects. Is it possible to splice in an effects loop somehow, or should I just look into getting a new amp? Thanks.

So you must like the built-in distortion of the amp then? I think the cheapest solution would be to find a disto pedal that sounds like the amp, and simply run it first in your chain, leaving the amp to run clean.
