whoa...bad latency in 6.0
i need to get something decent like fire wire.
i just was trying to calibrate my latency. i have it set at like...-160. i have a mic right at a montior recording a click track. then i recorded it again and again. at the beginning its a little ahead of the beat...at the end of the file...its behind. anyone else having this trouble? i really want to start recording..but to record a bunch of tracks...i can't have it doing this. maybe i'll just record in 4.0. i can't do punchins or record 2 separate channels or edit 2 separate channels, but the fixable 2ms of latency is a lot better than strangeness in 6.0 the top file is the click audio file. the next 4 files are records of that file at the exact same latency. strange it's sometimes before and sometimes after, and that the exact same latencies are repeated. in 4.0, they will all line up. *shakes fist at stock audio card* http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8239/latencyov8.jpg |

Double check your audio driver selections in the Preferences section. It might not be set correctly.
I had a slight latency problem on re-installation, and it turned out that it wanted to use outdated drivers that were in my system. Also, somewhere on your preference page, there's an area where I think you can select an auto latency detect of some kind...look for it, it may help.

the auto latency doesn't work. it's way off.
where is the driver selection? i did choose a different one with no change in latency look at this...i set it to 0,10,20,30. its just random. in 4.0 its constant 2ms. the line indicates what the click lines with what. they're all ridiculously late. http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/5252/new2zg3.jpg |

It's in the preferences somewhere. Perhaps, take a look under the 'Audio' heading of that window.

ok...i'm going to give up...i just recorded a simple stereo acoustic track and it sounds all phased and warbly. sometimes it sounds good, others not.
i'll just have to do my panning the oldschool way on my mixer. the compression and editing and punch ins are going to get annoying. anyone want to buy me an onyx firewire? haha. man, now that i've been teased with these features, it feels strange to load up 4.0. |

I'm using 4.0 (I tried 5 but didn't like it). Sounds like a stock soundcard problem to me.

Usually that should work.
Yeah Acid 6.0 absolutely rules. It finally does everything I always wanted it to be able to do.

yeah i mean, even if you spent just $50 on an audio card that was geared towards recording...it may solve your problem completely.

i really just want to buy an onyx mackie 1220. i will wait till the money comes.
i want to record other people too. i was a contemporary music major and i took 4 semesters in recording, so i really want to put it to use with something that will take in a good amount of tracks and not crappily. anyways...i installed the new driver. i think it may be just me thinking its better, but i had spent a lot of time before trying to find the latency and couldnt. now i have it perfectly adjusted to 252 and it only took a minute to find. that's horrible, but if its horribly consistent, i don't care. |

i would just like to say...i'm a happy boy now. i don't think i needed the 1220, so i went the 400f route. i heard the 400f has a bit better ad converters and since i already have a 16 channel analog mixer i can still out to the 400f...i don't need the 1220.

okay...so the strangency must be 6.0.
its not latency, because its not behind or ahead, its just sounds funky and out of phase. it will only do it in 6.0. buffer sizes dont fix it. |
