Yes, you'll need something to plug the triggers into (i.e., a drum brain). Any one will do since all you need is the MIDI out. MIDI out of the brain into the MIDI in on the Firepod and you're done.

Not true at all...
EZDrummer is a loop library with samples built into an easy to use interface.
All you need is computer speakers and a VST host....

It is as he is hoping to use triggers to trigger the midi so the triggers need to go into something like a drum brain, unless you get into audio to midi plug ins etc..

Is still say he should go the the toontrack website, and read up....

It has "gay ass" loops.... you crack me up... what are you, in 4th grade??
Again, for the third time, go to the website... the website clearly explains EXACTLY "wtf" it is...
If you have specific intelligent questions, I'd be happy to help.

I own it, and 2 Groove Monkee packs of "gay loops".... I have no questions at all about it... I heard about it, researched it, bought it.... EZ...

(I really like it... I can throw together drum tracks in minutes.... that sound REAL good...)

From reading the website it states that it works in general MIDI; therefore, I would take that to mean that you should be able to trigger the samples via midi and not use the canned loops. I don't own ezdrummer (I own DFHS & DFHS C&V) so the real question is can the samples be triggered via midi.

The site seems to make the clam that it is a scaled down DFHS and even has a DFH expansion pack available. The last time toontrack had a scaled down version of DFHS they called it DFH 2 and it sucked (I know I'm sorry to say I own that as well ).

As for the guys rationale for using this with drum triggers I can only speculate that he is trying to build a lower cost solution to a DFHS setup.

EZDrummer works in GM, but some of the articulations (cymbals/hi-hats), don't benefit, due to GM limitations. It's on he FAQ in the forum sections for more info....

It's a great way to get fast tracks that sound good.... I use the loops and some packages from Groove Monkee, which I highly recommend.
It's a steal for the money..

I'm looking forward to the DFH EZX package (extension) for it....

Continuing to read the EZ Drummer website

I don't think you will be able to trigger the samples in real time while playing an "electronic" kit but, toontrack clearly state the following:

"Possibilities for the user to add their own midi files to the library."

If this is the case then you should be able to play the drum part, recording midi, and use the file to play back the samples.

Hmmmm... it comes with a keyboard diagram for the mapping, but doesn't specifically state "real time" ...

I can tell you I have used it as just VST instrument with some midi tracks I had built earlier, and it worked flawlessly.... It doesn't depend on proprietary loops...

Just tried it.... (using a keyboard) Yup!! You certainly can.... I had no latency, and the velocity works perfect....

I don't know how you manage different symbal sounds based on crest vs. the rest of the cymbal, rimshots vs. snare hit, etc, but it seems to work perfect....

I trigger DFHS samples in real time while playing, it works OK. DFHS gives you the option of e-drum loads which doesn't load all of the samples (e.g., right hand & left hand hits, etc.). I will say that I built a killer rack mount PC to run it on.

The real time thing may not be a big deal; especially, if you're not an accomplished drummer. Recording just the midi data always gives you the opportunity to edit the midi track and correct any playing errors.

Cool.....

Timing is everything. It looks like you just told me I could have done this for less money . Oh well.

No big deal I still like the DFHS and DFHS C&V

Yes... Do a search on "Drum Samplers". You will need (duh) drum samples, and a host application (like Battery, etc...)

That's about all I know about this stuff....

Good luck... It sounds like Simman knows his shit with this kind of thing...
