Mixer/Soundcard intergration?

If i had a 4 bus mixer. I would need a sound card with 4 in/out to use all 4 bus for record together right?

Meaning, just for the sake of me understanding this.

If i had a 4 bus mixer i could record at the same time something on each bus right. say.

1.vocal
2.instrumental
3.guitar
4.bass guitar

this is just an example.. But if i would have a 2in sound card (say the M-Audio Audiophile 2496) i could only use 2 of my busses right?

rob.

Midi is a separate stream for which you don't need an audio bus.

Here are links to two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two.

They give you the basics to understand what midi is and what it isn't and what it can and can't do.

Yes, you are correct that the number of inputs on your soundcard limits the number of tracks you can record simultaneously. But, depending on the limits of your computer and your software, you can overdub as many tracks as you like.
