skipping and distortion in audacity

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me with the problem I've been encountering. I have a Roland 840EX (250mb zip disk recorder). When I make a song, I record the instruments/vocals on the roland and then transfer them via a M-Audio firewire interface, recording to my pc using Audacity. I monitor the sound as I am recording and everything sounds fine. Later when I play back the audacity file there are these horrible skips and distorted intervals that seem to come at random. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Floppy
