2 MXL 604's for $198 + 2 free 20' cables! Seems like a good deal to me, assuming a stereo pair is the same, or very similar, to a matched pair.

Sweet! I found matched pairs of 603's on eBay for around $125 (but they're gone), but I think that the 604's for only $75 more would be worth it since they have the -10 dB pad and 2 polar patterns.

I would call and ask. Then, when the come, check them. "Stereo pair" could mean "two pack," it has no established meaning in this context. It's like Jeep slapping "Trail Rated" on their SUV's, or the old Corinthian Leather thing.

I see nothing in the ad copy that those mics had been selected for being similar to each other.

I see your point with the "two pack" thing...considering that for that price a "two pack" seems to make sense

Even though I'm not going to buy mics anytime soon, I'll call them and ask them. Would it still be worth it even if it was just two 604's?

Matched just means that they have sequential serial numbers. Most companies do it that way because they should be as close to the same as possible. Even companies like Neumann use the same practices.
With the MXLs almost any two should be close, and that means that they are a stereo pair. Call to make sure of the serial numbers.
