Talking Here is my Setup :D

Here is my setup as it is at the moment.
I know it's not much but it works for me,
As for the teac machine trying to get information and manuals for it has been a complete headache so far. I am hoping i can obtain a user and service manual for it.
I already have a full service and user manual for my Fostex machine.

The Amplifier has input for 2 tape recorders, 1 Record player and an auxillery input (which i use for recording from computer to tape).

Enjoy

Keith

Talking My mini VAULT :D

The safe has all of my recordable disks DVD-r CD rw etc
Also some of my very valuable watches.
And some other goodies that i havent had time to dig out.

it is security coded, made from high tempered steel and 90 min fire resistand and it keeps my tape recorder at the correct height so i can go from one machine to the other when i need to change reels

And i had a bet if someone would ask me whats in my safe and i won WOOHOO

Time to expand...

I decided to add another machine which i have just finished repairing.

This is a great machine.

has 3 speeds
1.78 IPS
3.75 IPS
7.5 IPS

So i have all tape speeds covered up to 15 IPS across 3 machines.

and all tape reel sizes covered up to 10.5"

I am still looking for parts for thr Teac A-3300S machine, so if anyone has any info or knows where i can get parts please let me know.

Talking 3 New machines arriving soon

I just got 2 X Tandberg series 15 tape recorders and 1 Revox PR99 MK III ordered from ebay.

I will update pics soon

only problem is one of the Tandberg machines is the internal amp is dead and the output is only working on left channel and right channel is dead so any ideas on how to fix please let me know.

KRHALL,
I like the nifty little Tandberg 15's. Light, compact and functional machines with good sound and three speeds.
Apart from normal capacitor issues, the output amp may have cooked the output trannies (germanium) and/or their drivers which are also germanium.
Many years ago I discovered the little drivers, AC187/188, I think, can short the base terminal to their metal case and since the case is connected to a copper heatsink which is connected to the circuit, you have a failure.
Dont laugh but when I was not sure if replacements were available I insulated the heatsink from the circuit, and the two trannies from each other and was back in business. Some PCB track cutting was involved.
RS, or Radiospares used to carry these transistors but they came at a price.
Hope this helps.

Tim.

ok thanks for your help

I found that a capacitor on the amplifier board was loose. So i re applied the solder and the amp has now started working but the sound is greatly diminished (you have to turn up the volume to full and even then the sound is badly garbled) So i think i have a few capacitors lying arround.

Thanks for the info

Exclamation Tim RE: reply to your post

I checked the 2 transistors with the copper heatsink. It appears there is continuity between all 3 terminals on both of them ei: B C E

All 3 have a direct continuity with the metal frame of the machine, including various other components. I have completed repairs to all of the loose solder points on the board, and fitted a new double insulated AC power cable (So the machine is within the electrical safety regulations. (electrical safety act 1989)

I have also had to replace the internal speaker. I assume that the impedance of the internal speaker on most 15 series tandberg machines is 8 Ohm.

Also on the phono outputs on the back (the 3 close together) i get output on the center phono but nothing on the far left or right so i don't know if 1 of the output channels are dead. It is the same on the right 5 Pin din socket (output on 1 channel only).

Any info greatly apreciated.

Keith

Talking New pics comming soon...

Just got my Revox PR99 MK III

Runs great but the tape guides are quite well worn and the heads and pinch roller may need replacing soon. Its an EX BBC machine from their studio in Devon U.K. It has had a LOT of heavy usage, and judgeing by the faceplates it has had quite a bit of abuse with people cutting the tape with a stanley knife on the faceplate (very bad).

It works and sound great.

Any ideas on replacement parts and also a tape head demagnetizer ???

Congrats on your new Revox, Keith!

I've seen parts such as heads and others on eBay. I'm a TEAC / TASCAM man myself so I can't say I follow these very closely but eBay is a good place to watch and / or you can post this question on rec.audio.pro over at google groups. Ask if there is someone in the UK who services those and / or has parts etc ..... Get some leads that way. I doubt many here own Revoxes and would be able to provide much in terms of details but I could be wrong, as is the case many of time.

Btw, I hope you didn't pay too much for this machine.

EDIT: Oh yeah, for that PR99 beast you'd definitely want a stronger demagnetizer such as the Han-D-Mag.

Keith,

Here's a new erase head:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Erase-head-1-4-2-...QQcmdZViewItem

It may be that several Revox / Studer models may share the same heads or different heads can be fitted it. I wonder if your heads are in good enough cond to be relapped. Anyway, you can ask this same seller if he can keep a lookout for an entire headstack for you .. Never hurts to ask.

Here's another person which has lots of Revox parts:

http://stores.ebay.ca/corylinda

I think I saw tape lifters in there too etc ...

Check these out ... and ASK!

Ok, look at this:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/1-X-Set-HEADS-for...QQcmdZViewItem

It's a completed auction with NO bids. The seller is from Germany and the heads look new and look half track (which is what you need). Not a bad price considering it's a Revox pro machine.

Tape lifters:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Revox-PR99-MkIII-...QQcmdZViewItem

Make sure to ask (or get more photos) if there's any noticable wear / flat spots on these before using the BIN. I'm not sure if what the photo shows is the side where the tape glides or not ... You may want to get a photo of both sides.

Make sure you also get a service manual.

I have found resources to get repalcement heads (£140.00 GBP) (arround $350.00 U.S)

I'm goint to get these. Price is no object to me compared with what i can do with this machine.

This machine is my pride and joy

Also i have learned that Revox issue a 30 Year warranty on their machines for servicing carried out by them

Talking 2 Tandberg Series 15 Tape Recorders

These are my 2 Tandberg machines
1 is a 2 Track Mono and the other is a 4 Track mono and stereo

What i am doing here is copying from 1 tape to the other using a 5 pin DIN lead

The 2 track mono machine works perfectly and the 4 track machine is the one that has the dead internal amp. So i am copying a 4 track recorded tape to a 2 track machine so i can play it on the internal amp
