The video has something in the title about the guy being really fast, and of course he's faster than many, so suddenly impressionable people thing he's got mind numbing speed. Haven't any of you kids tapped on a kitchen countertop or something? Don't you guys understand rebound? The guy is good, and to get there does take practice, but it's within the reach of every drummer willing to give up girls and internet access.

OK. I can see that we're completely unfamiliar with rudaments, time signatures, polyrhythms, drags, open rolls and the ability to play from all angles while juggling sticks. You've no doubt never seen the old Spirit of Atlanta snare line play ratamacues while juggling three sticks mid-air. Hell, I'd bet you don't even know what a ratamacues IS or how to read music! I was learning this kind of shit WHILE getting laid and before the internet existed!

After all that dialogue I had to watch the thing for myself. He was definately very good and the cue should have been when anyone saw the start of the video. You have to be smoking to make the DCI finals because the competion is intense.

That being said do a search for Mike Mangini somtime on video.google.com! He does a drumset solo that is awesome and he is the fastest drummer according to the record books.

There is really such a difference between drumset, drumline, and other various forms of percussion. Personally I respect them all.
