Tascam DP-01 and EQ

My DP-01 has Semi-parametric EQ and each individual track can have the high and low set at different levels (i.e. Low can be set between 32Hz and 1.6kHz and High can be set between 1.7kHz and 18 kHz).

How does this work? If I lay down a bass track, and I want to mess with it, say I set the low at 60hz, and tweak my EQ low knob (I have a range that rolls from -1 through -5; center; and +1 through +5).

What am I affecting and how much am I affecting it?

If I set the EQ High for 400 Hz (same eq knob positions as above), again how much am I affecting and what am I affecting?

Also, what happens beyond those frequencies? Each - or + increment on the EQ High and EQ Low, what is that affecting and how much is that affecting it?

The high and low knobs determine what frequency you want to affect (actually, it is a frequency range that is predetermined by the manufacturer in this case) The other knobs either cut (- numbers) or boost (+ numbers) the volume of the frequency (range) you have selected on the EQ knob.

So, if you dial 60Hz on the low EQ knob and turn the other knob to -2 , you cut some frequencys centered around 60Hz (maybe like 50 to 70Hz). The numbers on the other knob sometimes indicate the amount of cut or boost in decibels, but it could also just be a relative scale. At zero there is no cut or boost.

that's what i wanted to know. what the frequency range is. i guess we'll just have to ask tascam.

The frequency range is listed on pg. 28 of the manual. As ErichS mentioned, normally the scale is in decibels (usually from -12 to +12), but the EQ on the DP-01 series may not be. Semi-parametric EQ generally has a fixed "Q", probably around 2 or so (my guess). Assume about an octave or so in width. Frequencies around the one selected will be affected about that far away (picture a bell curve graph, with the selected freq. at the peak - the EQ falls away from either side).

BTW, tascam is notorious for not answering emails, so don't expect an answer, esp. if it's not service-related.
