cubase le w/ firepod
i just bought a firepod and started playing with it. I connected a cheap mic with a 1/4 end to inputs 1 and 2 and it sounded great. But it was when i put into inputs 3-8 i found that it sounds very low. i could barely hear it. is it b/c of the mic? do i have to use a different kind of mic for those inputs. I tried looking in the manuals that came with the firepod, but i couldn't find an answer. somebody help please

First of all, if using a pc, press f5 in cubase le and make sure that inputs 3-8 are on. Also the first 2 inputs are supposed to be special mic pres, i have experienced the same exact thing. If using a condenser mic, use phantom power. It might be because of the mic, because those imputs are still very loud and clear, just not as loud as the first 2. What will you will be recording? I am happy with my gear and i am going "studio standard" and "afforable but good products way". Hope that helps bud.

channels 1 and 2 have a different gain than the remaining channels, thats why you are hearing a difference. Notice the mic/instrument and mic/line labels

oh
i was thinking of recording like the setup diagram that came in the manual. i recorded but when i playback the input channel by itself, i could barely hear it. but like you said it could be the mic. its a cheap mic

i understand what you are saying. but the difference is huge, and even if i turn the knobs, i could barely hear it, to the point when in cubase, the green bar that indicates the volume(i guess the best way i could describe it) barely moves up a little bit

it will be huge, instrument preamps expect a much lower input signal than line pres

I dunno man, when i got my first firepod, it was screwed up. I had to replace it. I hope everything is working right. Try to borrow an sm57 or sm58 to test it. You should get a full level and more. I use 3 and 4 for my guitars and the rest for drums. But for mics, use the mic pre-amp, thats 1 and 2. But def try those inputs with another mic or just by plugging a guitar right in, you should be able to clip the shit out of it, if not, you might have a program. Also, again make sure those inputs are highlighted.

If you are hooking up an instrument, you must use input 1 or 2 with a 1/4 inch plug. If you hooking up line level, you must use input 3-8 with a 1/4 inch plug. If you are using a microphone, you must use an XLR connector in any one of the 8 inputs. If your mike is a condensor, you must turn on phantom power.
