Radio

I have a mixer, and I want to record a radio sounding podcast. Ive given up on the music scene. What do you recommend for a microphone for spoken word? Dynamic or condensor?

Im on a small budget, also.

ALSO, I have another co-host. So Ill need two mics. Im a guy and shes a girl.

dynamics are more durable and in general, less sibilant. condensors are generally alot more sensitive. depending on your budget, i'd go condensor on the cheap or a nicer dynamic if you have more money to work with. hell, a modded sm57 would probably work fine, maybe even an unmodded one.

What do you think these guys use? Their sound is ideal.

My ears are'nt familiar with alot of different mics to be able to tell. I would doubt that anyone's ears on this board are that good, especially with all the mp3 artifacts going on in that podcast. I do know that some of the most popular radio mics are the sm7, re20, and md421. all dynamic mics. you gotta have a compressor too for that classic undynamic radio sound.

Disclaimer: I've never been involved with radio, never will be, and have no desire to be on it, even if my musical talent were to magically sprout.

Shure SM7 & an EV RE20 are real standards as far as broadcast work. Might be outta your budget though?

Shure PG-48 is for vocals and one of the cheapest mics on the market

ev 664

Hi,

When I did radio I used an EV 664. I put a windscreen on it, got real close, and talked all low and breathy.

That may not be your sound.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

Big Kenny might be on to something... if the PR40 is too much, maybe the PR30? I have no personal experience with any of these Heil mics though. Check this thread out. http://podcastrigs.com/?p=46
