MXL v63mbp

Anyone tried this mic with the 9V battery and
could say what it sounds like?

if it's the same basic mic as the v63, i would'nt count on it being very good.

that reminds me, there's a review in the last TapeOP (#54 p.72) for a couple of mxl mics. the reviewer starts off talking about mxl mics in general and describes the 2001 (v63) as "smooth", "accurate", and "warm". wtf? i don't have anything against mxl mics but i think the reviewer has been puffin the cheeba a little too hard.

to me, it sounds unfocused, over bassy (muddy), with no real defined mid range. i have one if you're interested.

i've only tried it on my vocals and acoustic guitar. i was'nt impressed but if you know your stuff, it would be useable. i've heard decent stuff recorded with it.
