Guitar Center

Can your GC install pickups for you?
How much do you think it would cost to have them install a pickup in a hollow body guitar?

I don't know if guitar center specifically will install pickups. I don't shop there much. Music stores will generally do it for around 25-30 dollars for one pickup.

Probably, if you don't care about having it done right.

ah, so would you guys suggest a smaller guitar business or like something family-owned then?

Yes. I've had the best luck with small, local shops. They seem to care more about each customer and instrument.

Although if it's just for installing a pickup, pretty much any guitar shop should be able to do it. Just make sure the guy who works in the shop knows what he's doing. If it's a small business, chances are there's only one or two guys working back there and they probably have a lot of experience.

My GC uses a local guy who is great. I guess they just sub-contract him. Probably worth a call to find out who they use.

See if they do it in house or send it out. Whatever brand your guitar is, if it's still in business, go ahead and call them and ask for an authorized service technician. That's how I found my luthier (quick shameless plug for Doug at the Guitar E.R. in Lombard, IL near Chicago. He's never ever let me down).

Go local. My local guy is a true Luthier. Another shameless plug Joey Burrell Guitar Works. Just had to.

Just because someone runs a small "local" shop doesn't mean they are qualified to repair guitars. Talk to other players and find out where they get their work done. Find someone with a good reputation for doing things right the first time.
