recording 2 tracks at once - HELP PLEASE!

i have a tascam us-122 and cubase le. how do i record 2 tracks at the same time? is it possible? ive read the manual and hit every button on the damn thing and i cant figure it out.

guh welcome to my nightmare. yeah its possible, Set up a stereo track and plug two inputs the Tascam, one left and one right. What preferable is setting up two mono tracks. Set up one to take the input from your us 122 Left input and the other to take the input from your us 122 right input. And in theory you should be able to record each seperately and mix individually. lemme know how it goes, I got a lot of clicks and pops when I tried

in each track's settings, you have to set the inputs and outputs how you want them. telepaul, how does one track work out? what latency are you running at?

you guys ever think of reading a manual. They're really a valuable piece of equipment. Neither the Cubase or Tascam manuals have all that many pages, and the answers to all these questions are in there.

yeah i read the manual. I know how to do this stuff, believe me I do, but ht etheory and practice are different. I'm setting up my tracks fine but theres a buffering issue which prevents me from achieving true stereo or two mono tracks without experiencing drop outs. So, yeah I've read the manuals but they don't have all the answers.

Alright as for you, you need to set up audio inputs. This is like one of the first things in the manual; it brings you to a screen where you set up Audio Busses, and tell Cubase where to look for an input. It will be something as simple as US 122 L and R appearing in a drop down screen. I'm not at my pc right now, but its the menu that allows you to access vst instruments etc. So once youve go that set up, import a track. Choose a stereo track. Click on it and record enable. Then in the menu to the left of the transport screen, there should be input and output boxes; one will say US 122 Stereo In. You're go to record.

For two simultaneous mono tracks, add tow mono tracks, on after the other. Click the first and record enable, and in the input Box press US 122 In Left. In the second mono track, select US 122 in Right. Make sure you've record enabled both tracks then hit the big red button on the transport bar.

Look, as I said, I havnt got Cubase in front of me right now. But I know its really annoying spending money on stuff you can't get working. If this doesn't sort it out, e-mail me and I'll open my Cubase and go step by step.

so how are you recording 2 mono tracks simultaneously? thats what i cant figure out. how do i assign each track to a different input on the tascam?

i havent recorded anything useful yet via that method. i just set it up and tapped on 2 mics to see if i was doing it correctly - and i was. thanks again. ill try a little piece tomorrow and see how it goes. ill post my results in this thread.

You BASTARD! Im kidding, but I'd love to know what cofiguration you have; as I mentioned earlier Ive an almost identical set up and I get pops. Whats your buffer size and sample rate ?

If you increase the buffer/latency (try 512 -- shoot for the lowest latency that fixes the problem), the pops should go away. This is more of a computer issue (& a limitation of the USB bus) than it is a problem with the tascam or cubase. There are several tutorials about optimizing your computer for USB recording (like minimizing the number of background processes, turning off virus scanning software, unplugging other unecessary USB devices, etc.).

128kb and 44.100. whatever those numbers mean.

44.1 is cool thats the sapmle rate..where are you getting the 128 kb? My tascam can latency can only go a slow as 256 You in the tascam us 122 control panel?

go to devices > device setup > VST multitrack > disk buffer size. mine says 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 256. mines always been on 128. my 'latency' is set at 1024. whatever that means.

i dont know what any of that means. i guess its just my default setup from when it was installed. i didnt even install my setup. i had my old lady do it. she got it working and i was off and running. i guess i need to learn what all that shit means. i am computer retarded.

I am okay with comps...which will make this question seem awfully basic...but do you mean devices in the cubase menu? Your latency is the time it takes to hear back what youve played, its pretty much a delay. if you dont notice it when you monitor, you probably havd the Direct Monitor button selectd n the US 122.

yeah i monitor directly off the tascam box.

yeah i mean devices in the cubase menu. for example, open a project, and youll see 'devices' across the top of the screen. its in there.
