Question Replacement idea for a MT4X

I used to record with a MT4X and have about 100+ 4track cassettes I did with it and I'm deciding to back all those up to wavs on dvds. But my MT4X is in poor shape after all the abuse I've done to it, esp. the pitch shift

Anyway I'm wondering what would be a sutiable replacement for it. I'm mainly looking for something I can by new or barely used, so it would have to be a more current model. Just to make sure it will be in good shape you know.

I've been looking towards the Tascam 424 MKIII, as that seems to basically have all the features of the MT4X, what do any of you think sound like a good idea? Has anyone else tried tapes recorded with the MT4X on a tascam?, did they sound right?

Thanks for your help.

Arrow The Tascam 424mkIII is a fine unit that's easy to get at a fair price & like new cond

so I say, "go for it"!

Well actually I downloaded the manual of the Tascam and it mentioned that it records its tracks in slightly different locations on the tape than a normal tape recorder, and I'm wondering if the tascam will match my old MT4X recordings, I guess if it sounds bad or doesnt work I can sell it back on ebay for close to what I pay.

Arrow It should match as well as any other Yamaha.

Portastudio tapes and 4-track cassette format are not compatible with "normal" stereo format tapes. Neither the Yamaha nor the Tascam's "master" tapes are compatible with "normal" stereo players, thus the need to "mixdown" 4-track format program material to a "consumer" tape format, (MD or CD).

The upside is that with the "new" (newer) 424mkIII, you still have the option of continuing to creat music on the ol'4-track/cassette format,... which is something many people still enjoy doing!
