Porta02mkII Gain Problem
Here's my problem:
1. I've recorded an acoustic guitar part on tracks 1 and 2 (Rode NT-5's through a Phonix mixer). I've panned them hard left and right, respectively. 2. I recorded a bass guitar track on 3. 3. I went back to record a shaker on track 1. Everything sounded fine until I hit the record button. I heard a massive volume and high end increase through the headphones. After recording, the shaker sounded fine. Not at all what I heard when monitoring. What the hell happened? Nothing changed on the mixer or Porta at all between the switch. |

it sounds like you had either a feedback loop between the Porta and the external mixer, or there was an imbalanced adjustment of the "playback/monitor" controls.
There are some unknowns, but my first guess would be an inadvertent feedback loop. At least you got your track down despite it all. ![]()

I think it's the Type I tapes I'm using. I ordered a stack of Maxell Type II's (SM-60). Is there any damage being done to my machine with Type I's?
