Controlling offensive tones...

I can't seem to get rid of this really nasty overtone on my acoustic guitar on a song. Any tips?

position it different. possibly have it faced downwards about a foot above of you and havce it aimed at the guitar

or get a better mic?

or better cables, that could be why the noise is comming

can you post an example?

is the guitar resonating? same pitch every time? is it only heard in the recording? only when using the mic? or do you hear it even when you are just playing the guitar in the room and not recording? which mic? if you have another guitar, do both guitars do the same thing? what recorder? do you have a parametric eq available?

Best to fix the source, but if all else fails or it is too late - notch the offending frequnecy with some parametric EQ.

......and the trick to finding the offending freq is to sweep a narrow parametric band with a good amount of boost till the offending freq really jumps out. Then cut it. But do this only after the above suggestions on fixing the source have failed.

I agree with the previous two posts.

I've been tracking a guy who uses a Cort acoustic guitar. It has this big Honk at about 510 Hz. It took some sweeping to find out exactly what the offending freq area was.
