my engineer recomended me the M audio firewire solo
today i told my engineer (who has been away on a project for over a year) that i wanted a pc studio that i can bang out decent tracks on before i go 2 his studio. i told him i was thinking about the mbox 2 with $300 mic..he said that is waste of money..he told me i should go with the M -AUDIO FIREWIRE SOLO and get the AUDIO-TEC AT4040 mic i believe..all i do is hip-hop/rap... Sooo, i would like your thoughts, yes yours! should i go with the less expensive M AUDIO FIREWIRE SOLO or should i go with the more expensive MBOX 2 USB RIG ??And why???also tell me what u think of that mic..thanks everybody

I don't know much about either of these two interfaces, but I would go with the firewire option over the usb interface because the firewire will be a hell of alot faster. As for the mic, again, I don't know much about audio technica, but if You wanna get some decent sounding tracks before you go to the studio, I'd buy the studio projects b-1. It's what I got and it sounds great for just the 100 bucks I got it for online new.

I would go with a delta 1010, or 1010 lite before firewire. Not much of a price difference.

Don't forget you'll need software to go with that Firewire Solo.
I recommend M-Powered Protools...$249 6 |

yes, keep it small.
since you are doing hiphop/rap, you'll only be using ONE input at a time, so there is no point in something like a delta1010. the m-audio and protools M powered & and AT4040 is perfect. i'm using a mackie onyx w/firewire card & an AT4040, and it sounds awesome. haha. so yeah, go m-audio for sure though.

Speaking of Delta 1010, I have one for sale.
Great interface, best coverters for the money, and runs with M-Powered ProTools as well as all other popular sequencers. Mine's been great to me. Cruise over to the for sale forum here and you'll see my thread. /product plug>
