hege is on a distinguished road
please help!

I'm from croatia and I actually need some translation help. How do you call a recorded piece of music (a song) together with the back vocals and all the instruments, but without the main vocal. it is used, for example, in shows on TV where there are no good conditions for a live performance, so you put this, and only the singer sings live?

i'd call it a 'backing track'.

but i don't know if that's the official name, or just something i've made up

I think you are talking about karaoke or possibly just background music or sound tracks.
