Quality of wav when being recorded..

I tried recording some of my tracks into wav and the quality seems to be horrible...some times it sounds really echoey and metallic..other times there is just alot of static and you can barley here anything..Im only using a stock sound card at the moment so is that the reason or do I need to change some settings?

Probably a combination of the sound card, the pre-amps and the mics you're using. (I'm assuming you don't sound echoey and metallic to begin with )

What type of mic are you using? And are you simply plugging it into the mic input of your stock sound card? If so, you're not going to get anything the sounds too good.

Yea I got the mic plugged in..its just the cheap mic that came with the computer but just curious what that has to do with the recording in the computer..?

If you use a crappy camera, it won't matter how good the film is. The same is true here... the microphone and preamp (you're using the preamp on your sound-card) are not really cut out for high-quality recording.

Have you recorded keys directly from the keyboard out to the sound card in? That should clarify the mic situation.
