Mixer Problem #2

Ok i have a 16 firewire Multimix made by Alesis.
Stats- There are 8 Mic Ports and 8 Line ins for guitars ok.
-Now the first 6 are microphones for my drums.
-the 7th is my vocals mic.
-the 8th i use for recording the guitarist, obviously through the line in.

PROBLEM- I need to record my bassist. And i wana add it into the same song.
- I wana let my bassist listen to the existing song then play/record to it but
all my lines are filled..
- Can i just take out the guitar line in and put the bass guitar line in or what?

Can Anyone Help
thx

Are you trying to record everything at once?

I have a similar setup, but got around the input limit by putting the guitars into the stereo inputs: (9/10), (11/12), etc. I plugged the bass into my available line in so I could utilize the gain knob (bass was straight into the board). If you are using a Pod or other device for the guitars and don't need the gain, the stereo inputs work nicely. Just set the level of the guitar on the external box. You actually have more than 16 inputs on the thing, if you can utilize the stereo inputs as I've described.

Of course, if you are playing everything, unplug the guitar, lay down the bass, and plug the guitar back in!

Thanks!!
I didnt kno i could use the 9/10ths line

I dont have an external box thought but there is a line of EQ, aux, post, balance, ect. below the lines so i dont think i may need an external box.

also another question if can be answered.

- How do i add effects from my built in effects?
You know, Hall, Room, Plate, Chorus, Plange, Delay, Pitch.
Im not Really sure i have the right idea with the effects but,
How do i use them and what do they do?

it's in there!

Check out your manual, starting on page 21. It tells you about the effects and how to use them.

also...

There is a great "making the most of your mixer" section in this yamaha manual that explains a lot of basic concepts. you might find it helpful.
