Could i make my own Vinyls?
is there any companies that sell vinyl 'lathes'? i saw an older one go on ebay for 10 grand.... im kinda looking to spend a couple hundred hehe.
i'd be going from protools (2006) to vinyl (1976).. how ironic. its just for fun, my older family members would get a kick out of it.

That quote you saw was about it... as far as I know there is no cheaper way to do this. I am almost sure that unless you devise it yourself there is now way to do it for $100

I always thought it was a press rather than a lathe

im not really sure, i think the old old old ones were lathes, but then the newer record companies developed presses so they could churn them out quickly.
things just arent as they used to be (im only 16, i can barely remember the cassette tape)

i know someone who had a plan to make a 'Bradford Bands' compilation thing of a number of the bigger local bands in my area, and he wanted to put it on vinyl. he realised he'd have to charge about £20 a copy to cover costs, so didn't do it...

Vestax and another some company both make record "burners" which are similar to dub plates but are more durable. Its just a turntable with a cutting head where you can make one off records

Yeah, a cutter would be the way to do it - one at a time though...
rek-o-kut made a bunch, you could search ebay for those from time to time, though few were stereo. Here is a current offering... |

The Vestax unit is very expensive, if I'm not mistaken.
Why not just pay to have a record pressed. Do you only want to make one copy or something? |

Quote:
The lathe cuts the master "lacquer" disc; the lacquer is then plated with silver and peeled from the lacquer; then this plated "negative disc" is either used as the "stamper (in the "press", to imprint the positive disc onto a blob of hot vinyl), or it's saved as "the mother" and is plated to produce a positive disc, which is then replated to produce a fourth generation stamper. |
