The Alesis Multimix 16 Firewire Mixer

Arite, so i have a drumset, and 6 mics.
- 2 condencers
- 3 regular mics (snare, toms)
- 1 Kick Mic
Im using a program called mackie tracktion, and i still get this same problem when i use N-Track Studio.

Problem- I can record my drums perfectly. I cant record my friends electric guitars directly.
Arite, someone fill me in here. My alesis manual says plug it into a Line, which is a slot right below the microphone inputs. But when i go to record, .. it doesnt. All i can hear is my condenser mics picking up some echo.

Can anyone let me know anyway to record guitar on my mixer!
thanx in advance

I think the problem with that is that condenser mics need phantom power in order to operate or some kind of power to amplify the signal before the preamp.

unplug the mic cable... or use a different channel altogether... it sounds like you have both the mic and guitar cords plugged into the same input.

and if im wrong.... i have no idea lol.

Yup, thanks, that was exactly my problem. I was trying to use a mic and a line in. It also has to do with the fantom i think, but i wlways have my phantom switch on. dont see a reason when to have the phantom turned off..

nah, it had nothing to do with the phantom, because you were able to record your drums just fine.... it was just the fact that you were trying to get 2 inputs out of one lol. if that was able to work, it would be called the alesis multimix 32usb

Phantom power is for condensor mics. Do NOT use phantom power with dynamic mics. When recording electric guitars directly (no miking the amp's speaker) use a DI box. Connect your electric guitar's unbalanced cable with the 1/4" phone plug to a DI box's input. Connect the DI box's (a balanced XLR) output to your mixer's MIC input (with no phantom power). When you use your MIC inputs, disconnect your LINE inputs and vice versa. Use a patchbay. Your guitar's high Z LINE output can NOT go into your mixer's low Z LINE input. This is why you use a DI box. Hope this helps and prevents you from screwing up your mixer's inputs.
