The cord for my comp. speakers.. green end? Can I extend with speaker wire?

The cord going into my computer for my speakers (with green end) is just speaker wire right? Can I safely extend the length of that cord by just cutting it somewhere in the middle and inserting some speakerwire? It's not long enough. I just want to make sure I'm correct before I try it.

yes, should'nt be any problem at all. make sure you make good splices. or you could get a new plug and wire and replace it all together

I matched up the wires the correct way.. taped each together, separated.. and it didn't work.

Is it a serious problem if they are not the same gauge? I would think that it wouldn't be. Maybe it is..

I redid it, and they're still not working. What in the heck

make sure the wire you have does'nt have a break in it some where internally. do you have a vom meter? or a 9v battery and an automotive light bulb? test the wire.

you should've found three wires inside the pc speaker cable. did you? did you connect them correctly?

Three wires inside pc speaker cable? What? It's two wires, each with many strands.

Yeah I think my dad has something out in his shop I could use to test the wire.

My method goes by this:
http://www.wikihow.com/Add-More-Speaker-Wire-when-Your-Speakers-Won't-Reach-the-Receiver

It says one is positive and one is ground/negative.

there should be one positive wire for each speaker and one common ground (shared by each speaker). two insulated wires and one uninsulated. pc speaker wire can be pretty small and you may have cut too deep and missed one of the wires. carefully recut and find the third wire.

i'm guessing that you used the two positive wires and missed the common ground.

Ohh.. I see! Ahh.. I thought the white thing and red thing inside each wire were just to let you know which is positive and which is negative. Hmm.. I'll keep trying.

So how do you connect the insulated ones? Do you cut the insulation.. because on the speaker wire I'm adding to it, it doesn't have one insulated strand in each wire like the pc speaker wire does. I need more help lol.

obviously you need three wires. use two pieces of speaker wire (one conductor and one ground each). connect the grounds of the two pieces of speaker wire and splice that to your pc speaker ground.

..........you'll actually have four wires with two pieces of speaker wire. you gettin' me?

My PC speaker wire has the red and white, and then two others. Are they really the same thing?

Did we really both decide to do that in paint.. at the same time? You did it before you saw mine? That's hilarious.. lol. Yeah we do suck at paint. ok I'm going to try this then.
