talkback solution

right now i'm currently running a set up with a digi002 rack and various other pieces....but my question is about talkback

the current situation involves running an extra input into the digi, having an extra track, record enabling it when i wanna talk...and im just trying to smooth things out here, and make it easier and more proactive on my part

all too often i start talking and i dont have it enabled, and then have to repeat myself, and flatly, it's just a waste of any comp cycles that it's using having anything extra going on...

im looking for something like the Mackie Big Knob

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tem?sku=700343

but not as overkill...with the digi002r i already have an alt src to monitor button...

im just looking for something for comfort and convience...where someone can track and i can put my hand forward...press a button on the desk and have a mic open up and be sent to the headphone amp in the live room

it may be totally unnecessary, but i'd rather have things running smoother and quicker in attempt to keep the flow of the session alive

Are you using a mixer at all?

Whats your budget?
There are quite a few products that do this, from the low end on up.....

here's a quick audio chain for dealing with the drummer (where this is really the situation, along with vox)

mics > snake > patch bay > preamps (no mixer) > digi002r > monitors/headphone amp

i dont have a specific budget for this piece....just more want to see what's out there and if something looks worth it, i'll go for it

as i said, the mackie big knob just seems to have too many things i don't really need...

Well presonus makes something I believe is called the "Central Station" that would do what you need and runs about $500, and then there is the Samson C-Control which is a little lower on the food chain and runs about $100, and then there is the Behringer MON800 which costs $39 and is a basic headphone and talkback "mixer". All of these would give you talk back functions plus headphone control.
